Special Projects and Events Manager

We’re seeking an experienced events professional to work within the organisation to plan and deliver large events and projects.

The role

This position leads planning and delivery of a range of large  events and projects covering budgets, logistics, execution, delivery and evaluation. You’ll collaborate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders as well as multiple external partners to align goals and expectations.

About you 

You have proven experience in projects and events. You are organised, detail-oriented and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

You are confident in managing multiple priorities and in using collaborative processes to enable that. You can demonstrate coordination of multiple moving parts under pressure.
 
You have an interest in and understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues and of the reconciliation process in Australia. You have experience in or an understanding of the not-for-profit sector.

Required

  1. A demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, cultures and issues.
  2. At least 5-8 years demonstrated work experience in a project or events management role.
  3. Self-motivated with an ability to set and lead own agenda and workload with minimal supervision.
  4. Demonstrated successful outcomes working on large scale and complex deliveries.
  5. Experience using project management software and collaboration tools, e.g. Excel, Asana
  6. Sound written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and accurately to a broad range of audiences.
  7. Strong customer service mentality and genuinely enjoys working with people.
  8. Ability to prepare and interpret flowcharts, reports, schedules and step-by-step action plans.
  9. Strong client-facing and collaboration skills
  10. Demonstrated experience using a variety of project methodologies, with an ability to work to a hybrid methodology that is custom-fit to the outcomes of the project or event.

Desirable

  1. Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and senior stakeholders.
  2. Accreditation in Project Management (e.g. PMP; PMBOK; Prince2; Agile; Scrum).
  3. Working With Children/Vulnerable People Check or the ability to be eligible to acquire this.
  4. Current valid Australian driver’s licence.

Salary

The salary range for this role is $115,000 – $125,000 + superannuation (inclusive of 17.5% leave loading), dependent on experience and qualifications.

Paul Girrawah House

Paul Girrawah House has multiple First Nation ancestries from the South-East Canberra region, including the Ngambri-Ngurmal (Walgalu), Pajong (Gundungurra), Wallabollooa (Ngunnawal) and Erambie/Brungle (Wiradyuri) family groups.

Paul acknowledges his diverse First Nation history, he particularly identifies as a descendant of Onyong aka Jindoomang from Weereewaa (Lake George) and Henry ‘Black Harry’ Williams from Namadgi who were both multilingual, essentially Walgalu-Ngunnawal-Wiradjuri speaking warriors and Ngunnawal–Wallaballooa man William Lane aka ‘Billy the Bull’ - Murrjinille.

Paul was born at the old Canberra hospital in the centre of his ancestral country and strongly acknowledges his First Nation matriarch ancestors, in particular his mother Dr Aunty Matilda House-Williams and grandmother, Ms Pearl Simpson-Wedge.

Paul completed a Bachelor of Community Management from Macquarie University, and Graduate Certificate in Wiradjuri Language, Culture and Heritage and Management from CSU.

Paul provided the Welcome to Country for the 47th Opening of Federal Parliament in 2022. Paul is Board Director, Ngambri Local Aboriginal Land Council, Member Indigenous Reference Group, National Museum of Australia and Australian Government Voice Referendum Engagement Group.  

Paul works on country with the ANU, First Nations Portfolio as a Senior Community Engagement Officer
