The deadline for the Narragunnawali Awards has been extended, giving schools and early learning services extra time to enter Australia’s most prestigious award for reconciliation in education.

The Narragunnawali Awards recognise schools and early learning services that are committed to reconciliation in the classroom and the community.

The deadline for the Awards has been extended to midnight, Sunday 19 May, 2019.

Winners of the awards will receive a cash prize of $10,000 each to go towards reconciliation initiatives.

Reconciliation Australia CEO Karen Mundine urges community members, parents, students and teachers to put forward a nomination for a school or early learning service that demonstrates a strong commitment to reconciliation.

“We’re asking schools and early learning services to celebrate their successes and challenges and to share their reconciliation stories,” Ms Mundine said. “We know the earlier people have conversations about reconciliation the better—that’s why schools play a vital role in progressing reconciliation.”

To be eligible for the Narragunnawali Awards, schools and early learning services must have commenced a Narragunnawali Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) – this can be done at any point during the nomination period via the Narragunnawali online platform.

Reconciliation Australia’s Narragunnawali: Reconciliation in Education program has seen almost 4,000 schools and early learning services across the nation commence the development of a RAP to drive positive, whole-scale change in their local educational communities.

Nominations for the Narragunnawali Awards 2019 can be made online here.

Reconciliation Australia, in partnership with the BHP Foundation, holds the Narragunnawali Awards biennially to identify, celebrate and promote outstanding reconciliation in the education environment and to share the success across the country.
