The 2018 Dandjoo Koorliny Reconciliation Gathering is focused on celebrating and showcasing Nyoongar and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and people in the Town of Bassendean to the wider community.
Featured at the event will be dance, songs and storytelling from Nyoongar performers, local schools and local community members. Maar Koodjal Aboriginal Dance Group will put on a dance performance, with opportunities for audience participation. There will also be art, cultural and storytelling activities.
While there will be a focus on educating and connecting with the Primary and Secondary School students in attendance, it is a free community event and all Bassendean residents are encouraged to attend and enjoy the activities and atmosphere.
Now into its fourth year this community event recognises the significant Nyoongar cultural links in the Bassendean area and Mary Crescent Reserve specifically. Over the past few years, the Town has been building on the strong foundation the Bassendean Cultural Advancement Group has put in place, and together, we have been working through the Reconciliation Plan of which this event forms part of.
