SUMMARY:Blak Dingo Club Film Club - Sweet As
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories with a FREE Blak Dingo Club Movie Night – Sweet As edition! \nThis May and June\, we’re proud to collaborate with Blak Dingo Club to present a free film series\, book club and quiz night in honour of National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). \nFor this session\, we’re screening Sweet As – an uplifting coming-of-age road movie by Nyul Nyul / Yawuru director Jub Clerc. \nWith problems on the home front\, 15-year-old Murra is on the verge of lashing out. That is\, until her policeman uncle thwarts her self-destructive behaviour with a lifeline: a “photo-safari for at-risk kids”. Murra isn’t entirely convinced\, but she soon joins cantankerous Kylie\, uptight Sean\, happy-go-lucky Elvis\, and camp counsellors Fernando and Michelle on a transformative bus trip to the Pilbara.

SUMMARY:Blak Dingo Club Film Club - Putuparri and the Rainmakers
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories with Blak Dingo Club and a FREE movie night – Putuparri and The Rainmakers edition! \nThis May and June\, we’re proud to collaborate with Blak Dingo Club to present a free film series\, book club and quiz night in honour of National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). \nFor this session\, we’re screening Putuparri and The Rainmakers – a universal story about the sacred relationship between people and place. \nPutuparri is a man caught between two worlds: the deeply spiritual universe of his people’s traditional culture and his life in modern society where he struggles with alcoholism and domestic violence. As he reconnects with his ancestral lands and learns about his traditional culture he begins to accept his future as a leader of his people and shoulders his responsibility to pass this knowledge on to the next generation.

SUMMARY:Ngaank Boodja
DESCRIPTION:Immerse yourself in stories of Country under the stars at Yagan Square as Ngaank Boodja (Mother Country) comes to life through a moving showcase of song\, language\, dance and light. \nPresented in the lead up to National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) on Sunday 3 May\, Ngaank Boodja: Stories of Country in Movement and Lights invites audiences on a journey through time – bringing to life stories of the Noongar people who once gathered at the ancient wetlands that lie beneath Yagan Square. \nThrough choirs\, powerful visuals and song\, audiences will hear stories of Goologoolup – once the heart of community life. A place where Noongar women gathered at the water’s edge\, where children splashed\, birds flew overhead and frogs croaked in the reeds. \nTaking place at the Yagan Square Amphitheatre\, this special event is a powerful celebration of Aboriginal culture and creativity.
