Bringing together players\, volunteers and supporters from tennis clubs across Victoria\, the event recognises and celebrates Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples\, cultures and histories while encouraging meaningful conversations and actions toward reconciliation. \nHeld as part of the Pennant Super Round (across two venues) the day will feature Welcome to Country\, smoking ceremony and didge performance (12:15pm) and opportunities for participants to learn\, reflect and engage with the themes of National Reconciliation Week. The event aims to create welcoming and inclusive tennis environments where everyone feels a sense of belonging. \nThrough sport\, Tennis Victoria is committed to strengthening relationships\, fostering respect and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to participate and thrive in tennis and community sport. The Reconciliation Round highlights the role sport can play in bringing people together and advancing reconciliation in action.

DESCRIPTION:Aunty Lesley North is a proud Gunditjmara\, Mutti-Mutti and Torres Strait Islander woman. Her commitment to First Nations participation\, her beloved Naarm Angels netball club and the wider Darebin Netball community has spanned over decades. Aunty Lesley started the Angels Netball Club over 13 years ago and has played netball in the Darebin area for 45 years. \nCoinciding with National Sorry Day (26 May) and the beginning of Reconciliation Week (27 May to 3 June)\, the Aunty Lesley North First Nations Round recognises the history\, culture and enormous contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to netball in Naarm and across the country.

DESCRIPTION:The Little Long Walk is a fun community event inspired by Michael Long’s powerful walk to Canberra in 2004\, which raised awareness and advocated for the rights and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. \nWe will begin with a Welcome to Country\, followed by a short talk from The Long Walk team. Then it’s time for fun cultural activities for kids and families such as banner making and the Marngrook program\, where they will enjoy traditional games\, storytelling\, language\, art\, and learning about tools and artefacts in a fun and engaging way. \nWe will also take a community walk together around Sunvale Community Park\, and finish with a BBQ provided by the Sunshine Lions Club. \nAll welcome.
