DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories with a FREE Blak Dingo Club Movie Night – The Dark Emu Story edition! \nThis May and June\, we’re proud to collaborate with Blak Dingo Club to present a free film series\, book club and quiz night in honour of National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). \nFor this session\, we’re screening The Dark Emu Story – a thought provoking\, revelatory and inspiring documentary telling the story of Bruce Pascoe’s Dark Emu – the publishing phenomenon that challenged Australia to rethink its history and ignited a raging debate. \nThe 2014 best-selling book makes the explosive claims that First Nations people were not only hunters and gatherers but also farmers who were part of a complex economic system. But Dark Emu has ignited a fierce debate\, sparking searing criticism.

That is\, until her policeman uncle thwarts her self-destructive behaviour with a lifeline: a “photo-safari for at-risk kids”. Murra isn’t entirely convinced\, but she soon joins cantankerous Kylie\, uptight Sean\, happy-go-lucky Elvis\, and camp counsellors Fernando and Michelle on a transformative bus trip to the Pilbara.

DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stories with Blak Dingo Club and a FREE movie night – Putuparri and The Rainmakers edition! \nThis May and June\, we’re proud to collaborate with Blak Dingo Club to present a free film series\, book club and quiz night in honour of National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). \nFor this session\, we’re screening Putuparri and The Rainmakers – a universal story about the sacred relationship between people and place. \nPutuparri is a man caught between two worlds: the deeply spiritual universe of his people’s traditional culture and his life in modern society where he struggles with alcoholism and domestic violence. As he reconnects with his ancestral lands and learns about his traditional culture he begins to accept his future as a leader of his people and shoulders his responsibility to pass this knowledge on to the next generation.
